Surprise, surprise, another clash of the big-tech giants is underway. This round features Meta vs.Twitter in the battle to rule the text-based social media realm. For years Twitter has reigned uncontested as the go-to text-based social media platform. However, a new text-based app has entered the chat, Meta’s Threads.

Threads is a new platform for sharing real-time updates and engaging in public conversations. The app allows users to follow and connect with friends and like-minded creators. For casual posters and creators, Threads provides a forum for users to express their thoughts and share ideas.

Déjà Vu

Meta’s text-based app is certainly not the first of its kind. Threads aims to challenge the dominance of its primary rival, Twitter. The Threads feed feels and functions similarly to Twitter., Users can post updates, like, re-post and reply to each other’s content. Posts on Threads can be up to 500 characters and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes long.

Meta’s Threads is Making History

Threads continues to gain significant traction since its launch and is officially the fastest-growing app of all time. Within 24 hours, the app attracted 30 million users. Less than a week after its launch, Threads surpassed 100 million sign-ups.

The app’s rapid growth is promising and positions it as a formidable opponent for Twitter. There is a key difference between the two platforms, though. Threads intends to foster a different type of conversation than Twitter’s focus on news and current events. Meta’s strategy is to shift away from news and political discussions,  prioritizing positivity, human interaction and light entertainment.

In terms of expanded functionality, Threads offers a simple switch between light and dark mode, providing users with customization options. Instagram’s chief, Adam Mosseri, has also hinted at upcoming features such as voice notes, photo and video tagging, and post reactions. However, Meta wants to avoid cluttering the user interface and will carefully consider including new features.

Where Do I Start?

Signing up for Threads is easy. Simply use your existing Instagram account to log in. Your username and password will carry over. Once you set up your account, you can follow the same accounts as on Instagram or explore the app for like-minded individuals who share your passions and interests. Your feed on Threads is a curated collection of threads posted by the accounts you follow, as well as recommended content from new and undiscovered creators.

Leveraging the New

While Threads is still new, your business can leverage the curated feed to connect with your existing Instagram followers and establish yourself as an early adopter. Your business can gain visibility and cultivate meaningful connections with prospective customers by engaging on Threads.

Conclusion

With its unique features, clean interface, and impressive growth, Threads has the potential to captivate users looking for a fresh take on a familiar social media space. So who will take the text-based app crown? Will Meta’s Threads unravel Twitter? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
