2023 Digital Marketing Trends: Team Predictions

It’s that magical time of year again when the world slows down for a moment to spend time with family and friends, reflecting on the past year and celebrating what is to come. New Year’s resolutions are made, some new and some carried over from years past (like the one you swear you’ll stick to this year), as hope, excitement and anticipation for the year ahead fill the air. For marketers, we’re filled with glee because soon, we will see what the 2023 digital marketing trends will be!

At Envano, we can’t help but think about the new things we will see in the world of digital marketing next year. We can’t contain our excitement, so our team figured we would share with you what we expect to see in 2023! Here are our team’s predictions for digital marketing trends in the new year!

Content Marketing

First and foremost, it’s all about personalization. Gone are the days of generic, one-size-fits-all content – in 2023, it’s all about tailoring your message to your specific audience. No one likes receiving a generic and automated Happy Birthday from a brand. Sure, the 10% off is nice, but it doesn’t make you feel special. However, receiving a personalized birthday message from a brand you love with that 10% and a curated product recommendation based on your shopping habits is sure to make you feel great on your special day. Get ready to roll out the red carpet because we’re giving our audience the VIP treatment this year.

Short-form Video

Surprise, surprise, video content is not going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, we predict it will continue to dominate platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube as short-form video continues to rise in popularity. Not only that, but big budget and high-quality video production is taking a back seat, as users prefer short-form video content that feels authentic and accessible. Videos shot using phone cameras make users feel like they get a more accurate visual depiction of the quality of products and services.

Interactive Content

Interactive content continues to rise in popularity. Social media channels have introduced filters that include quizzes, polls and other interactive elements that can keep your audience engaged. Interactive content can help you gather valuable data about your audience’s interests and preferences and can help you give your audience more of what they’re looking for. User-generated content helps your brand seem personable and relatable.

Social Media

When it comes to content marketing and social media, many brands are chasing their “golden ticket,” aka going viral. As amazing as “going viral” can be for brand awareness, conversions and growth, a good digital marketing strategy can get you consistent and long-term success. Going viral can certainly expedite that process, but it does not mean that those results will be long-lasting. Just be sure to stay up to date on digital marketing trends, and you’ll be in good shape! Building brand recognition and a strong customer base will serve you better in the long run.

“From AI to new TikTok trends, I’m excited to see how new technologies can help our clients dominate digital in 2023!”

Graphic Design

Minimalism is still all the rage when it comes to graphic design. Clean, simple designs allow users to view, digest and navigate content easily. A clear and minimal design style will help your brand stand out in a sea of visually cluttered content. However, don’t be fooled by the San Serif fonts; minimal doesn’t mean boring. In 2023, we predict a rise in the use of bold, bright colors. These pops of color can add energy and individuality to your designs to help your brand stand out from the competition.

Animation

Consider incorporating animation or motion graphics if you want to take your designs to the next level. These elements can bring your designs to life and create a more immersive experience for the viewer. Our team expects an uptick in animation in the New Year to captivate users as consumer attention spans are shorter than ever. (We’re looking at you, TikTok users).

Cohesive Branding

Good graphic design is much more than a great logo (though that is very important). In the New Year, we expect to see more cohesive branding that tells a brand’s story and sets the tone for what customers can expect from a business. As design tools are becoming increasingly accessible and user-friendly, it will make it that much easier for businesses to have cohesive branding.

AI in Design

AI, or artificial intelligence,  in the world of design has seen huge technological advancements. With the release of Dalle2 and similar AI design software, companies have more access than ever to one-of-a-kind designs and AI-created stock images, expediting workflow for designers.

“Graphic Design is always changing, and I have no doubt there’s going to be new and big trends coming soon, especially with AI making such a huge splash at the end of 2022.”

Digital Advertising

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are taking over the advertising world, and we don’t see that trend slowing down in 2023. These technologies can help optimize ad campaigns, target specific audiences, and personalize ad experiences – basically, they’re like the ultimate wingmen for your advertising efforts. And let’s be real, digital advertising is a constantly evolving enigma, so having a little extra help in navigating it is always a win.

Personalized Ads

Digital advertising platforms (i.e., Google Ads) are shifting towards signal-based marketing. This will allow digital marketers to gather and attribute personalized data, making ads more intelligent and tailored than ever before. Personalized, targeted ads are on the rise because, let’s face it – we’re all tired of being bombarded with irrelevant ads. By targeting your ads to specific audiences, you can ensure that the right people see your message at the right time.

SEO

Search engine optimization (SEO) is more important than ever. Optimizing your advertising efforts on all channels is crucial as the use of voice search, and voice assistants continues to grow. In 2023, featured snippets, Google entities and zero-click results will be highly sought after as consumer trends suggest a negative association with the “Ad” label on SERPs. Brand partnerships will also be huge for developing a dynamic brand persona. Those partnerships will help to build trust and brand awareness, as well as improve search rankings through relationships with agencies to create backlinks.

Influencer Marketing

The digital marketing sphere will see a shift toward brands partnering with content creators. Influencer marketing is at an all-time high and shows no signs of slowing down. Again, consumers are looking for authentic content and brands they can trust. Leveraging an influencer’s audience and the trust they have established with their followers can catapult your brand overnight.

Automation Tools

Email marketing and digital advertising automation tools will help to level the playing field between smaller and larger businesses. These tools will identify the most cost-effective ways for a business of any size to reach its target audience. They will also help to identify the gaps in content and digital advertising from one competitor to another. We expect to see smaller companies willing to spend their budgets on paid advertising and email marketing automation.

“I predict that we will see an increased appetite for curated content in 2023. It doesn’t matter if you’ve produced the content or if you’re reaching out with something instructive and exciting. I believe curated material can be an effective strategy to provide some learning and insight while also demonstrating that you are trustworthy and add value. It can be pretty effective as a B2B strategy. I am excited for what digital marketing trends we will see in 2023.”

Technology

AI is king. We will continue to see a rise in automation tools and programmatic software. Machine learning (text to: image, audio, video, code) is getting a lot of attention and will play a major role in the digital marketing industry. How big of a role is yet to be determined, but at Envano, we are excited to embrace these advancements to help our clients.

Big tech is getting a shake-up right now. From the Twitter drama to Google’s constant algorithm changes and updates, smaller companies that fit a particular niche are giving big companies some serious competition.

“Large, monolithic companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Google will continue to be disrupted by smaller, more nimble services as users move to more personal spaces such as group chat and federated services like Mastodon and others.”

Industry

Remote work and remote customer support began before COVID, but it has accelerated through the pandemic and is here to stay. Due to this change, we must find ways to still create strong client relationships while interacting from afar. Video has helped tremendously, allowing people to read body language and form connections with clients and co-workers. Remote work allows us to broaden our recruitment efforts to find team members with unique experience and expertise to better serve our clients.

Physical and Digital Customer Experience

In the post-pandemic world, your digital presence is everything. With so much uncertainty right now, many of us have retreated to the online world. That is why your digital customer experience must be aligned with your physical customer experience. Gone are the days of having an incredible storefront and a horrible website. You need to consider both the physical and digital to create a cohesive customer experience.

“Your digital presence, be it website, social, podcast or search placement, is often the first place new customers see you and the place they decide if you qualify for them. How does your digital presence stack up?”
